The Story behind the Words... Chloë remembers:
"I love teaching this course - it challenges me to prove what I'm saying with every word and gesture! I get such a kick out of seeing someone discover their public speaking confidence.
"I know what it's like to dread public speaking. I ILL with nerves for 6 solid weeks before my first ever professional seminar in 1991.
"In the third seminar I ever gave, a delegate interrupted me and blustered 'I've been here an hour and I haven't heard anything useful yet!' Luckily I was so shocked that I couldn't think of a thing to say - lucky, because the rest of the audience turned on that person and told him to.. er.. be quiet! Big lesson learned!
"Since then I've faced all kinds of audience and disaster; from workbooks not delivered to power cuts and fire alarms; plus abysmal catering, unbearable heat/cold, filthy rooms and toilets, and banqueting managers who just didn't care. I've given all-day courses with no notes and in casual clothes after my luggage was lost - and after nights entirely without sleep in noisy hotels...
"Once, the ceiling fell in.
"Worse things happened to my colleagues: notes stolen; taken ill on the platform...
"You can be a successful public speaker and presenter with practice, with good audience technique, and above all by delivering your subject with knowledge and a dash of passion."
